In April 2015, RUMRA Board approved its guiding principles. Check what RUMRA is about and how RUMRA sees the future of rural, mountainous and remote areas.

Inclusive growth, territorial cohesion and integrated development is key for rural, mountainous and remote areas.

RUMRA commits to work for an explicit recognition of rural territories, with their diversity, as poles of development and innovation, in a balanced relationship with the urban poles. Recognizing rural territories, in their diversity, as poles of development and innovation and not only as natural and agricultural spaces is an essential condition to meet the objectives of the Europe 2020 Strategy and specially the inclusive growth.

Territorial cohesion is not just a core value of the EU, but it is a key condition in order to live well throughout the European Union. It must include all EU territories in their diversity, whether isolated, mountainous or facing urban sprawl. All EU citizens deserve, and it is a fundamental right, a fair access to a good quality of life, with access to jobs, information, health and transport services, clean energy sources, etc.

Strategic objectives of RUMRA Intergroup

  • To raise awareness of the added value of an integrated territorial approach and to address, in an transverse approach, rural issues within the European Parliament as these are currently scattered between various Committees (AGRI, REGI, ENVI, ITRE, EMPL, etc.)
  • To reduce the gap between rural, mountainous and remote areas and the urban ones, by developing the potential of these territories in the economic, social, environmental and inclusion fields and by turning disadvantages into opportunities
  • To further improve social, economic and technological inclusion of all rural territories and their inhabitants in the spirit of the Europe2020 Strategy and in a positive relationship towards the urban poles
  • To highlight initiatives of these territories in the economic, social, environmental and inclusion fields
  • To listen to and share the concerns of citizens and businesses in these areas, in order to ensure that rural issues are addressed structurally and consistently at the EU policy level on a fair and balanced approach
