On the 12 March 2015, MEPs and partner organisations are to officially launch the RUMRA Intergroup. While activities have been ongoing since the intergroup received official confirmation, this was the first opportunity for the intergroup to lay out its interests and objectives to the public, and in this case, to policymakers.

Rural, mountainous and remote areas contribute widely to European economies, cultures and ecosystems. Yet EU policies often overlook these key regions, contributing to the widening gap between those areas and other ones more developed. All EU citizens deserve a good quality of life, with access to jobs, information, transport and clean energy sources. This event will outline main areas of activities of the Intergroup on Rural, Mountainous and Remote Areas, and mark the opening of a forum dedicated to regions often underrepresented in public dialogue.
